Steam downloading files that isnt default folder

I have about 25GB of free space and sometimes it's insufficient for an update. In Steam the download claims to be 2,5GB which is already big but during installation the 'downloading' folder becomes over 23GB?? What I assume happens is that the downloads are heavily compressed and are extracted first to the download folder, then copied to the Steam directory so they are actually 3 times on your disk before the installation files get cleaned up.

Ace View Profile View Posts. Try moving the files in to the install directory for the game that you have selected in Steam. You would need to make sure that Steam is installing the game on your E: drive otherwise it's going to try and download the game again to your C: drive.

Double check that your install location is set correctly, then when you verify the game files it will detect everything you have already downloaded. Are you sure you didnt set the folder as "hidden" by accident? Google "how to see hidden folders in Windows 7 or 8" depending what OS you have. It will give you a step by step on how to view folders which are set as hidden. Ok I'll try that.
